4: Jesus Christ, Storyteller

AJ is back! And we talk about awesome stuff. Namely, the way Jesus told stories, the way we should tell stories, and somehow in the middle of it all we get into a conversation about open-air preaching and traveling the country and sharing the Gospel. After that, we do a segment where we take a parable Jesus told, and create an entire outline for a genre-fiction novel out of it! Buckle up, folks, it's time to dig into stories. Note: I apologize for the quiet volume of some of the audio in this one. We didn't realize that Connor and AJ weren't close enough to the microphone until afterward. The Purpose of Parables: Here is the section that Connor read that explained the purpose of parables. Luke 6:45: Here's the reference for that verse we were trying to find! The Evidence Bible: One of the best study Bibles we've ever come across. Absolutely full of quotes, studies, and footnotes and that are invaluable for understanding the Word of God and how to share it, defend it, and live it. The Parable of the Wedding Feast: The parable we use to structure the story is found at the beginning of Matthew 22. Check it out! Numerous Christian artists were mentioned in the last segment of this episode, such as Michaelangelo, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Lecrae, Propaganda, and Leeland.     LINKS:Podcast Website YouTubeTwitch ChannelPatreon CampaignCaleb's Website ...

3: Edginess, Integrity and...Piercings?

We have a conversation with our friend Kirsten about the fine line between edginess and integrity when you are creating art as a Christian, and in the middle of it all we end up talking about many other tangential topics, which is mainly the reason for the length of this episode. We also share a bit about what the Christian response to tattoos and piercings should be (one of Kirsten's favorite topics), cause, you know, body art.   We also referenced a lot of things in this episode, so bear with me...   God’s Not Dead: We talked a bit about this movie and the fact that it really wasn't all that great, but we didn't get into the specifics because someone already did that for us (and he did a much better job then we could have). So check out this video!   Son of God: We talked about this movie. And we don't recommend seeing it. But just in case you wanted to know more about it...   Exodus: Gods and Kings: We also don't recommend seeing this movie. At least if you get angry at ...

2: Vulnerability

Us guys are joined by our good friend Becca Harper to talk about vulnerability, both in art and in life in general. We start off with Connor giving us the juicy details of the dream he had the morning of us recording the podcast, and that sparks a very interesting discussion on vulnerability and using personal experiences in art.   Shadow of the Colossus: This is arguably mine and Connor's favorite childhood game. With an amazing story, beautiful art, and heart-stopping gameplay, this is definitely a game worth checking out.   Emery: One of Connor’s favorite songs, that he references in the podcast, is “I Never Got To See The West Coast” by Emery. He wants you to check it out.   Relient K: We talked about some of our favorite Relient K songs, and as we said in the podcast, the fantastic song “Let It All Out” really fits with our topic, so we thought we’d put it in the liner notes. ...

1: Introduction

And so begins the show! Caleb, Connor, and AJ talk about creativity--why we’re creative, ways to be creative, and how we can honor Christ with that creativity. A very general overview this week, but as the show continues, we’ll expound on this topic and many others like it. We also talk about the famous quote “preach the gospel, and when necessary use words” and whether or not that’s Biblical. Oh, and we also answer a “question” from a friend of the podcast.   Writing Excuses: Caleb’s favorite podcast, hosted by four of his favorite authors, and covering all sorts of tips and tricks in storytelling/creative writing. You’ll probably be hearing a lot of references to this podcast during the course of the show.   St. Francis of Assissi: Yes, we’re aware that Connor kept saying “Sir” Francis. And we’re also aware that it is “Saint” Francis.   WWUTT: One of our favorite YouTube channels, “When We Understand The Text”. Seriously, guys, they’re great, their theology is great, and their videos are ninety seconds long. You have no excuse to not check them out.   The Collection: One of Caleb’s favorite bands. You’ll hear more about them in the future. They have ...
